Rotary Shirts are Here - A reminder that  President Dick Earne has the shirts that many ordered.  You can pick them up at Dinner meeting 8/28.  Bring a check for $33 (yes, he saved you $2!) made out to Grand Island Rotary.  Proudly wear the G I Rotary name while serving the community, and having fun.  Note that he ordered a few more - great news sartorially!
Before Coming to Rotary Meeting Wednesday:
Help Clean Garden at Kaegebein School! - Wednesday morning, Aug. 26, 9:30 - Noon, it would be wonderful if you could 'pull weeds' and help get the garden at Kaegebein School ready for the new school year.  Please let Mary Haggerty know you can help by Emailing her at: maryhaggerty@grandislandschools.org.  Bring gloves, trowel, water bottle and have fun!

Membership Moments
  • Please remember to bring copies of the Rotarian Magazine to Pres. Elect Sherry at the next meeting, for placement in waiting rooms around Grand Island.  Of course that is after you have read it!
  •
  • Keep thinking Membership Prospects  Are the folks you meet every day at business, socializing, family, people interested in service opportunities?  Fill out that Membership Lead Card and turn it in.
  •
  • Hope you read Pres. Elect Sherry's recent note about the Survey you finished a few weeks ago - particularly her insight: there is general satisfaction with Club, however, we are not inviting friends, co-workers, family to join; why is that?  Are you prepared to make our Club stronger, to make it GROW!  Increased Membership is the Key.
Rotary Beyond Grand Island's Shores
  • The whole idea of ROTARY and its concept of 'Service Above Self' starts local with a community minded Club.  Our local, Grand Island, Rotary is important in itself, can and should do great things locally.  But there is so much more, which Rotary International can and does do; please be aware and participate.   Here are some of what can be done to extend yourself and your concept of Rotary:
  •
  • An opportunity to rub shoulders with RI Leaders from US Northeast and Ontario - volunteer to pick them up from Buffalo airport, drive them to Niagara Falls, CA, for a major Zone Institute there running Sep 17 - 21.  See President Dick Earne for details.
  •
  • A unique chance to see & hear the RI President Elect, Holger Knaack of Germany at Annual Eastern Cities Fellowship Dinner in Rochester, Monday, Sep 23. President Dick Earne will arrange car-pooling and perhaps a table for us to hear a notable Rotarian and meet with Rotary leaders from all Upstate NY and Niagara, Ontarion.
  •
  • To really develop your Leadership Skills, Network and increase your base knowledge of Rotary, you should participate in RLI - Rotary Leadership Institute.  Three sessions, covering all levels of leadership, both for yourself, and for your Club & District, are being held Saturday Oct 5 at NCCC in Sanborn.  Talk to President Dick and others who have taken one or more of these sessions - they are worthwhile, both personally and for the Club!
