Breakfast Meeting at Eggsquisite, Wed, Mar 11!
Young Entrepreneurs who Developed Casey's Cabana-
Hear their Story!

Wed., Mar 11 at 7:00 AM, order your breakfast at Eggsquisite, then join your fellow Rotarians to hear the fascinating tale of High School students who took on more than a 'Summer job' - turning the old Bedell House 'clam shack' into Casey's Cabana on Ferry Rd.  Gabby Bergstrom & Luke Hess have an interesting and pertinent story of modern 'small business start-up' - come hear it.

Several words of thanks to our current 'POD Chief', Brian Graham, for the speaker he brought to our Feb 26 meeting. Cheryl Cardone, Asst. Director of Pupil Personnel Services, gave us a valuable introduction to the range and intensity of services offered to students (and their families) when students have personal, economic or home difficulties. All right, some of us mutter about school taxes, but this type of talk shows us the real value of all those extras that are now an important party of the public school system.  Whether they are 'homeless' students (did you know we have a few? ?), disabled or disadvantaged students (whose needs are so varied) or the disaffected, angry, student who may hurt himself or others, we can be very thankful for the range of services Grand Island schools give our students.  So come Wed. AM for another example of a valuable Brian Graham - originated program.

Solving our Leadership Needs -
Yes, we have been talking for several weeks about Officers needed for this Club in 2020 / 21 (starting in July).   President-Elect Sherry Miller will be President in 2020/21, you knew that.  Please help her fill out a Leadership Team for that year (starting July 2020, AKA just 4 months away).  Secretary and an additional Director are about set.  We especially hope you might consider being part of a two person Co-President Elect team for 2021 / 22.  We all recognize the President's role is important and covers many aspects.  There is help and training; particularly when two share the role, it will be very do-able.
Tremendous Response to Undie Sunday
Chair Sherry Miller, ably helped for publicity by Mike Billoni, produced the best collection ever of underwear, socks for the homeless, needy and abused in this year's Undie Sunday.  The collection we had to sort overwhelmed several large tables at the Thruway Welcome Center last week. Great work by the entire team, and a real tribute to the generosity of Islanders, when they are fully informed of the need.

Gaining Personal Growth and Growth in Rotary

Our Rotary District 7090 has programs that can really help G I Rotarians - coming up right now in March is Rotary Leadership Institute. An opportunity to spend Saturday, March 21 at Niagara College, off the QEW in NOTL, gaining both personal and Rotary growth, in ways that help you be a better leader and help our Club.  A three part program featuring sessions for both personal development & Rotary details, with your Club paying the cost, this RLI program offers a unique chance to help both yourself and the Club. Deadline for this month's RLI is March 15 - Email President Dick NOE for more info at the button below, or go directly to the District site:
Help Us find High School Candidates for SLAPSHOT!
An outlandish title - but it WORKS:
Student Leadership Awards Program for Students High On Training.
A weekend (May 1 - 3) at an outdoors adventure camp in Ancaster ON, helping High School Students develop team play and leadership skills, and confidence to direct their peers into useful projects & outstanding goals.  We have sent several in the past, help us find the NEXT GENERATION of LEADERS. It would be ideal if the candidates were current Interact Members, but not necessary.  If you know of High Schoolers, Interact or otherwise that might be interested, contact President Dick at the button below.
