August is Rotary's
Membership Month!
Help Increase our Membership
No Wed. Morning Meeting on Aug 12
But, Yes, a Great Social at Launch Club, Aug 26!
No Zoom Morning Meeting, Aug. 12
Then, let's repeat that social evening on Aug. 26 under the Launch Club Pavilion - no, we won't repeat cupcakes for Mike H, they were scrumptious, but Mike only has one birthday a year! However, it is Akhtar's birthday month, we hope he is there, even tho there won't be cupcakes!

Again on Aug. 26 the Launch Club will serve us a nice chicken dinner ($25 per person) and Ricky Hoover will again provide background guitar entertainment. Hopefully you will invite both your spouse and friends whom you think might be interested in Rotary's service and social life. Because we hope the following makes sense to you:

President Sherry has sent you a note about Membership -
How do we start Membership recruiting conversations? Consider friends, neighbors, that you know desire service and would be enriched by Rotary opportunities.  Have a conversation with them about how Rotary has provided you with opportunities.  Are there new service opportunities you would like to talk to them about?  Talk to Sherry about what is missing - we can do it!
Sherry would also like to feature members on our social media with testimonials.  Please get in touch with her if you are willing to provide a profile picture with a few sentences regarding why you joined Rotary and the opportunities Rotary has provided to enrich your life.  She would like to profile at least 4 members this month.

Service in August -

School is Starting (Somehow)

Help Collect School Supplies for Kids

Yes, school will be different this Fall. But, elementary school kids (Huth Rd & Kaegebein Schools) will still spend a good bit of time in school, and will need a backpack with:

Large box, facial tissues, large Elmer's glue sticks, boxes Crayola crayons (24 ct), pink eraser, dozen #2 pencils (Ticonderoga brand), sturdy pencil box, black Expo markers, box of Ziploc sandwich, or gallon size, slider bags, Fiskar student scissors, poly folders with pockets and prong. It would be great if you added one or more large student size back packs!

Please consider buying several sets of some item, or one complete set - then bring to our Aug. 26 meeting, or drop off at Island Ship Center, Whitehaven Rd.  DECA students will sort and package the supplies for the schools to provide to students whose parents are having a tough time with Covid, etc.

Support Rotary's Polio Plus by biking!

Oct. 24 - Niagara Falls, NY to Youngstown

Our club will be represented by at least two bicycling enthusiasts in the District DR. RON MERGL MEMORIAL Pedal for Polio on October 24th. The ride is being renamed this year in honor of Dr. Mergl, Past President of Niagara Falls (Ont.) Rotary, who passed away this year.  He had made trips to Africa & India for polio Immunization drives; in addition, as a veterinarian, he had been to Africa to distribute rabies vaccines.  Bikers will be riding to raise funds for the Rotary Foundation Polio eradication efforts.  We will have more information coming on how you can help sponsor a rider and contribute to the cause.  If interested in riding, passing out water bottles or celebrating as they pass the finish line please let us know.  The US side of the ride is from Niagara Falls US to Youngstown.

District helps make Grant Applications Easier!

The District now has a really nice Events page making it easy to register for upcoming Zoom sessions.  We will be looking for a couple of members to attend a Grant Qualifying session to qualify us for funds to support specific projects like the Well and the Pandemic support of the drive through for food distribution at Salvation Army.  https://rotary7090.org/page/district-calendar-of-events/
